It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
